00. Preparations

Let's get started, this chapter is just a warmup.

01. Frame Assembly

Carefully assemble the frame as squareness is critical for smooth operation, take your time during the next steps.

02. Z-Axis assembly

The Z motors are responsible for the up and down movement of the bed and consequent layer stacking.

03. Linear rails

Linear rails on all axis ensure precise and stiff movement. Be sure to prepare your rails in order to obtain a smooth motion system.

04. Motion system - Core XY

Regular CoreXY motion system

05. Motion system - Hybrid

Full Speed with the hybrid.

06. x-axis assembly

A heavy-duty platform for the toolhead to speed through!

07. Bed assembly

The bed plate is precisely milled and surfaced to ensure it's as flat as possible.

08. Rat Rig V-Core 4 toolhead

High Performance, lightweight and powerfull cooling!

09. Toolhead - IDEX

High Performance, lightweight and powerfull cooling!

10. Gantry alignment

The X-Axis gantry needs to be perpendicular to the Y rails, the following steps will help you acomplish that.

11. Accessories

The accessories described in this guide will make your experience with the V-Core 4 much more enjoyable.

12. Electronics

The electronics are the components that make the mechanical assembly come to life!

13. WIRING

A step-by-step wiring guide is now available. It covers the installation and wiring of a V-Core 4.0 when using the Standard Kit configuration.

Wiring the V-Core 4.0 can relieve stress and improve sleep quality. Follow this guide carefully, and take your time to accomplish each step successfully.

Identifying Motor phases

keyboard_arrow_down

If your motors were acquired at Rat Rig, you don’t need to worry about motor pinout, simply follow our wiring diagrams.
If you sourced your motors elsewhere, you need to identify their pinout to avoid damage to the board. You can identify the motor pinout using either a LED diode or a piece of wire. Short two pins like on the example below and then rotate the shaft by hand. When shorting a phase the LED will light up or - if you’re using the wire method - rotating the shaft will become much harder.

BIGTREETECH Octopus v1.1 Wiring Diagram

The BIGTREETECH Octopus v1.1 is the preferred configuration for the V-Core 4 as it is fully supported by RatOS. Pay close attention to the machine variant, as the stepper motor position is different.

14. Enclosure

Enclose your machine to be able to print ABS, ASA, etc... noise reduction, improved safety and controled environment.

15. Hybrid+Idex Y Belts

Hybrid - Only install your Y belts during the commissioning guide
IDEX - Install them right away

16. IDEX Accessories

Install all the Idex necessary accessories.
