Patching instructions - IEC Patch

IMPORTANT SAFETY DISCLAIMER CAUTION: ELECTRICAL HAZARD
Before attempting the installation of AC wiring for this 3D printer, please read and understand the following safety warnings and instructions thoroughly. The installation of AC wiring involves exposure to high-voltage electricity, which can pose serious risks, including electric shock, fires, and potentially fatal injuries. This task should only be performed by individuals with appropriate electrical qualifications and experience. By proceeding with the wiring installation, you acknowledge and agree that:
‍
‍Expertise Required: Installation should be executed by a professional or by an individual knowledgeable and experienced in electrical systems. Improper handling or connection of electrical components can result in significant personal injury or property damage.

‍Compliance with Local Laws and Regulations: It is your responsibility to ensure that all wiring and electrical work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes and regulations.

‍Personal Responsibility: You assume all responsibility and risk associated with the installation of AC wiring. Rat Rig provides these instructions as a guide only and does not imply or express warranty or support for improper installation.

‍Limitation of Liability: Rat Rig shall not be liable for any claims, injuries, damages, or losses resulting from incorrect installation or handling of AC electrical components. Your decision to perform this installation signifies your acceptance of this risk.

If you are unsure about performing this installation safely and correctly, we strongly advise you to contact a licensed electrician to complete this task. Ensure all power sources are disconnected before beginning installation and follow all safety precautions.

Patching instructions - IEC Patch

This page contains the necessary information to install the IEC patch kit of a V-Core 4, always double check every connection and wiring diagram, read carefully.

⚠️WARNING!

Before beginning this guide, ensure that the machine is powered off and disconnected from the mains outlet.

Before getting started - How to crimp

Ensuring good crimps on 230V circuits is critical for both safety and performance. Crimps provide a secure and stable connection between electrical wires and terminals, essential in preventing loose connections that can lead to overheating, short circuits, or electrical fires. A properly executed crimp ensures low resistance and high conductivity, which is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and reliability of the electrical system.

Prepare the following parts:

Prepare all the wires, follow the workflow below:

disassemble the old IEC module and wires

Prepare the new IEC

Insert the fuse in the IEC fuse mount, then rotate it upside down and insert it in the IEC.

Install the new IEC

Install the IEC as shown, paying extra attention to its orientation. This is important to ensure the terminals are easily accessible from the inside.

⚠️WARNING!

Never connect the power cord to the IEC without finishing all connections and installing the AC cover. Triple-check all connections, as a misplaced wire can cause serious damage.

Install the 230V wires

Install the 230V wires, ensuring the fork connector is on the power supply end of the wires and the spade connector is fully inserted into the IEC.
Before connecting it to power, pull on the cables to verify if all connectors are secure!

Verify the Main power diagram

Your main Power circuit should look like this, remember to triple-check every connection and install the AC cover before connecting the power cord.
Before connecting it to power, pull on the cables to verify if all connectors are secure!

⚠️ Warning! V-Core 4 400 and 500 - 110V ONLY

Before connecting the power cable, inspect its rating. Ensure the cable is labeled with the correct voltage and current ratings for your electrical installation. If you are uncertain about which power cable to use, seek advice from a certified electrician. Rat Rig recommends using a power cable rated for 20A.

reinstall the covers

Reinstall the AC cover and the main electronics cover before powering up the machine.

A properly executed crimp ensures low resistance and high conductivity, which is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and reliability of the electrical system.

Prepare the following parts:

Prepare all the wires, as shown:

Ensure that each wire is complete with a fork connector and a spade connector at both ends, with the exception of the 1500mm YellowGreen wire. This specific wire must have a fork crimp on one end and a ring terminal on the other end, as illustrated below:

disassemble the old IEC module and wires

Remove the protective covers and disconnect all the marked wires, including the ground (GND) wire to the bed plate. Finally, remove the IEC and set the fasteners aside, as they will be used later in this guide.

Replace the electronics enclosure side panel

Remove the four M3x6 countersink screws OR M3x6 button head screws and the side panel. Install the provided side panel using the same screws.

Install the new IEC

Please prepare the IEC and fuse components, along with the previously removed fasteners. Use the following image as a visual reference:

Prepare the fuse holder

Remove the fuse holder cap by gently twisting it with a flat screwdriver. Then, insert the 15A fuse and proceed to reinstall the cap. Firmly press the cap down before rotating it to ensure the spring is fully compressed against the fuse.

Install the new IEC and fuse holder

Insert the new IEC into the side panel and use the two previously removed M3x12 countersink screws and M3 locking hex nuts to secure it in place, ensuring the IEC is correctly oriented as shown. Next, gently insert the fuse holder sideways to avoid damaging the terminal at its end. Ensure it is flush with the panel and secure it using the locking collar nut.

⚠️WARNING!

Never connect the power cord to the IEC without finishing all connections and installing the AC cover. Triple-check all connections, as a misplaced wire can cause serious damage and injurie.

Install the 230V wires

Install the 230V wires, ensuring the fork connector is on the power supply end of the wires and the spade connector is fully inserted into the IEC and fuse holder.
The long 1500 Yellow-Green wire must be fed through the rear panel hole and screwed to the bed plate.
Before connecting it to power, pull on the cables to verify if all connectors are secure!
